Le George Cinema présente des lignes verticales et horizontales Art Déco distinctives dans son auditorium, avec des sièges répartis entre orchestre et balcon.
Le bâtiment a ouvert comme County Cinema en mars 1939 avec Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains, changeant son nom en George Cinema en 1954.
Le cinéma participait au Festival du Film d'Édimbourg, introduisant le CinemaScope et le son stéréophonique magnétique à quatre pistes pour améliorer les projections.
Situé au 14 Bath Street dans le quartier de Portobello, l'établissement a cessé ses activités de cinéma en 1974 pour devenir le Royal George Bingo Club.
La conception originale comprenait une tour publicitaire en verre illuminée qui affichait des couleurs néon changeantes pendant la nuit, visible dans tout Portobello.
