La construction de Sainte Marie la Vierge remonte à 1250, avec d'importants travaux de restauration réalisés par l'architecte George Edmund Street en 1860.
L'église conserve des liens avec la famille Vernon de Hanbury Hall et abrite de nombreux mémoriaux, dont un monument dédié à Thomas Vernon.
Située sur Astwood Lane à Hanbury, l'église célèbre la Sainte Communion familiale chaque troisième dimanche à 10h30.
Le bâtiment sert de décor pour l'église fictive St Stephen dans la série BBC Radio 4 The Archers, accueillant des enregistrements d'événements cérémonials.
